So today someone told me that her son did not really appreciate that she and her husband paid for his ENTIRE college bill. Excuse me? That is an awful thing to hear! I think my quote to a coworker was this "If I was a guy with nuts to give, I would give my left nut to have had all my schooling paid for!" It's terrible to think that I am apart of an overall spoiled generation of kids, so spoiled they can't even appreciate that their parents spent thousands of dollars for their education. That is college loans this kid will NEVER have to worry about, and he is taking it for granted?! I would thank my parents every single day forever if they could have afforded to do that for me. It just made me so sad to hear that parent tell me that.
Anyways, on a less ranting note, I would really love if mother nature would make up her mind and let it be nice, warm spring already! Can we not have a sunny day that doesn't include a freezing cold breeze? Granted, I wasn't out in it much today, but just knowing that it wasn't going to be warm out when I left work sort of took the fun out things. However, rumor has it that tomorrow should in fact be a decent day. Since tomorrow is my day off every part of me truly hopes that this is true...even though I have papers to write..
And back to maybe a not so thrilling note..well a little of both actually. Anyone that has owned a pet that requires any regular vet visit knows that it can get expensive, and fast. It's scary wanting to be able to help your animal and worrying that you wont be able to afford the cost. I have to say that I am INCREDIBLY fortunate that the vet I take my animals to is as dedicated to her clinic as she is. Friday night, after hours for my vet, I got home from work and noticed my cat CJ wasn't opening one of his eyes very far at all. I got worried so I called the vet..closed..but with a cell number and a pager number to call if need be. I didn't want to bother her on her off hours, so I called our local animal emergency clinic, asking what I should do, and their pricing if I needed to come in and see them. For the problem CJ was having they said the bill could run up to or past $200! Are you kidding me?! So I paged my vet and she said that it sounding like a scratch on the eye and that he should be brought in and seen immediately (by her). I rushed him to her office, she stained his eye, and did a full exam. In the end, the scratch was deemed not to serious and I was charged $47 for the visit, $15.99 for the antibiotic drops, and 30.99 for the pain killer drops. My vet did NOT charge me for what she did while in exam like the Emergency Clinic would have, and she was so thorough. Her exam price was also not jacked up because of the off hours visit. The reason my bill was so much is because the new owners of the eye medicine have jacked up their prices because they can. Personally, I think that is as inconsiderate as can be. I have the means to pay for that bill I got, but not everybody does. A lot of people provide good, loving homes for their pets, and have trouble affording things like that. It's sad to think that because of that pricing some pets lose out on loving homes to go to animal shelters just because drug companies can rip people off so much. But again, I am fortunate to have options and some money to take care of these things. And I am thankful for it everyday.
My parting words today, be grateful for what you have been given, don't take even the smallest things for granted, someone out there would trade the world and then some for what you have.
Sincerely yours,
Katy
