It's been a little while since I have written and that's because it is just now that I am having a chance to write! Friday was employee appreciation at my work, and we were all given a catered lunch, a company gift, and a little raffle for us. No, it wasn't a TON, but it was nice. It changed the routine and it made things a little fun. It made me feel good, and I remember how good it has always felt when someone appreciates my work. I'm not talking about just an employer-employee, but whenever someone recognizes my work and appreciates it. I think it would be great if people could appreciate others more often, even the girl at the grocery store. Just that little bit makes a difference in the day of that person. It's SO easy to take for granted the everyday services we see, but stopping and saying thank you, and meaning it really can't be that hard.
On a completely different note, I was able to get out to Bradbury Mountain State Park. It was such a beautiful day, and the park was perfect. There was still some snow on the ground, but the warm temperatures made the snow look WAY out of place. I took my 8.5 month old puppy as well, he had a good time! He was actually really good around the other people and dogs. He even posed for some pictures! Personally, I think he just likes having his photo taken. :) We got a little lost on the trails coming back, hoping for the longer trail we ended up on the super short trail, but it was still a great time! We were able to finish the hike before the clouds really rolled in and made things cooler!
Sincerely Yours,
Katy

$@(#& *^*)#
As the title might reference, the language used would not be good. But I was just driving between college campus' and I ALWAYS have to wonder if people forgot how to drive when they sat behind the wheel of their car, or if they are just deliberately bad drivers. I live in Maine, and just like any other part of the country (this is speculation on my part of course) people think themselves to be the only drivers on the road, or they just blatantly don't care about the other cars around them. It always leaves me in a super cranky mood when I am driving in the city area and I am cut off-swerved around, and tail gated for absolutely NO reason. It's not like I am going slower than the speed limit. Usually I am going even a tad above it (not dangerously so, because I am in a city and that's hard to do), so why the rude tail gating? AH! It's just so frustrating, or even better, is when you are sitting in a parked car in a parking lot, getting ready to leave sure, but not in any rush. Someone sees you walk up to your car, so they stop to wait for your open spot. Sorry that I don't have any intentions on hurrying along so you can have my spot, I have to put my backpack away, get everything with my music (connected to my phone) set up so I am not messing with it while driving, so needless to say I don't just hop in and go. I also don't make an exception to that just because some idiot wants to hold up traffic to wait for me. And then this SAME idiot has the nerve to honk at ME because I am taking too much time. Well, sir, it is MY parking spot, I got here first, and I will leave when I am damn good and ready. Jeeeezzz. People these days are just so stressed and crazy. It's worrisome I'd say.
Yes, this was more of a rant than anything, but you never know, one of these terrible drivers could read this and change and make my driving around a little safer....that's wishful thinking on my part of course, but that's ok :).
On a new topic, it is a beautiful day out today, sunny and high forties to low 50s in some areas. Its so nice, I'm even sure that when I go to get in my car it will be warm. The only sad part is that I don't really get to go out and enjoy it as much as I would like, but it finally feels like Spring is really in the air and not just in our heads. And being from Maine, when Spring finally comes it feels so amazing to feel warm again. ahhhhh refreshing.
And in a random side note, my 8.5 month old puppy hates cats..of this I am convinced. He barks at them and chases them ALL around the house. If by chance you are on the otherside of the baby gate giving a kitty some love, he gets all whiny and SUPER jealous. I think that at some point here I have to break him of this, but everyone keeps telling me (the trainers and vets) that the animals will work it out for themselves and that's how it has to be. It does make sense that after a while they will probably duke it out and be friends, but how much abuse can a cat take from a dog? I mean CJ will hiss and make a break for it, smart as he is and all, but our other cat, Salem, just kinda takes it for a while, then finally meows and books it. It's so bizarre. Maybe at some point I should catch a video of this odd behavior so people will know what I am talking about haha.
Well, all of you out there have a wonderful day, hopefully my sunny day is far and wide for all to enjoy!
Sincerely yours,
Katy

A typical day in the life..
So today someone told me that her son did not really appreciate that she and her husband paid for his ENTIRE college bill. Excuse me? That is an awful thing to hear! I think my quote to a coworker was this "If I was a guy with nuts to give, I would give my left nut to have had all my schooling paid for!" It's terrible to think that I am apart of an overall spoiled generation of kids, so spoiled they can't even appreciate that their parents spent thousands of dollars for their education. That is college loans this kid will NEVER have to worry about, and he is taking it for granted?! I would thank my parents every single day forever if they could have afforded to do that for me. It just made me so sad to hear that parent tell me that.
Anyways, on a less ranting note, I would really love if mother nature would make up her mind and let it be nice, warm spring already! Can we not have a sunny day that doesn't include a freezing cold breeze? Granted, I wasn't out in it much today, but just knowing that it wasn't going to be warm out when I left work sort of took the fun out things. However, rumor has it that tomorrow should in fact be a decent day. Since tomorrow is my day off every part of me truly hopes that this is true...even though I have papers to write..
And back to maybe a not so thrilling note..well a little of both actually. Anyone that has owned a pet that requires any regular vet visit knows that it can get expensive, and fast. It's scary wanting to be able to help your animal and worrying that you wont be able to afford the cost. I have to say that I am INCREDIBLY fortunate that the vet I take my animals to is as dedicated to her clinic as she is. Friday night, after hours for my vet, I got home from work and noticed my cat CJ wasn't opening one of his eyes very far at all. I got worried so I called the vet..closed..but with a cell number and a pager number to call if need be. I didn't want to bother her on her off hours, so I called our local animal emergency clinic, asking what I should do, and their pricing if I needed to come in and see them. For the problem CJ was having they said the bill could run up to or past $200! Are you kidding me?! So I paged my vet and she said that it sounding like a scratch on the eye and that he should be brought in and seen immediately (by her). I rushed him to her office, she stained his eye, and did a full exam. In the end, the scratch was deemed not to serious and I was charged $47 for the visit, $15.99 for the antibiotic drops, and 30.99 for the pain killer drops. My vet did NOT charge me for what she did while in exam like the Emergency Clinic would have, and she was so thorough. Her exam price was also not jacked up because of the off hours visit. The reason my bill was so much is because the new owners of the eye medicine have jacked up their prices because they can. Personally, I think that is as inconsiderate as can be. I have the means to pay for that bill I got, but not everybody does. A lot of people provide good, loving homes for their pets, and have trouble affording things like that. It's sad to think that because of that pricing some pets lose out on loving homes to go to animal shelters just because drug companies can rip people off so much. But again, I am fortunate to have options and some money to take care of these things. And I am thankful for it everyday.
My parting words today, be grateful for what you have been given, don't take even the smallest things for granted, someone out there would trade the world and then some for what you have.
Sincerely yours,
Katy

I am new to this..
Apparently, I tried doing this with another blog a couple years ago, and clearly, that didn't work out too well for me. I always tend to wonder how many people feel the same way that I do when they try to get these things going. They have good intent, then get busy and completely forget what they had started. Who knows.
Anyways, since I am new to this (again). I will tell a little bit about myself. I live in Maine and I love it. I have a want to travel and get as many different experiences into my life as I can. I love to see new things, and make amazing memories. I have a dog of my own and two cats. My pets are strange, but they each have their own incredibly unique personalities. From the outside looking in it may not be too easy to understand, but if you own pets, you know they have their own little idiosyncrasies that make them completely unique!
Currently I am a student in college, and work part time to help pay some bills. Even though many people believe otherwise, college is not a kick back and relax thing. At least not for those who take it seriously. Having it referred to as a relaxation time because you aren't at work is a joke to any student that has ever had to write a long paper for class feeling like they wrote it all wrong. College can contain fun too, but it is not by any means just a time to "relax" (rant over haha).
Well, I suppose for now I will wrap this brief little info session up, it's weird to write about me, so that's where this will stop. Hopefully there are many more of these to follow.
Sincerely yours,
Katy
